Following the introduction of our sustainable packaging into the Nordics earlier this year, it is encouraging and motivating that growing interest in our eco wine bottles in this region now sees the launch of Servaali’s Evergreen brand in our flat format in Finland. Servaali Oy are one of the biggest alcohol importers in Finland and are a leading import and brand building organisation for premium beverages. Evergreen will be the first organic Old World wine to launch in the planet-friendly flat wine bottle format in Finland. Evergreen is an organic wine family that aims to keep the entire production chain eco-friendly and to bring excellent organic wines from around the world. The launch includes a Rosso and Catarratto-Pinot Grigio Terre Siciliane I.G.P.

Commenting on this latest launch, our Commercial Director, Amelia Dales, said “Servaali Oy are one of the largest alcohol importers in Finland and have been fantastic supporters of ours for some time. We’re so pleased to see this collaboration come to life and given the love we’ve seen from Finnish consumers to date; we’re confident Evergreen in our flat wine bottles will be a great success, addressing increased demands from both the monopoly and consumers for wine packaging that’s kinder to the planet. Bottled at The Park in Bristol, this launch marks the start of a number of new and exciting co-pack projects that we’re working on for both UK and European markets.”
It is a real pleasure for us at Garçon Wines to be working with Servaali and to see the importer be one of the first in a pioneering group that is reshaping wine to advance sustainability and help reduce the total carbon footprint of the wine industry. More sustainable wine packaging helps brands showcase important environmental credentials and enact change for good. The lightweight space- and energy-saving bottles save significant emissions in production and transportation, and importantly look just as great on the dining table as they do on-shelf. The unique and engaging bottle design helps to drive sales as Nordic consumers look to shop increasingly sustainably in the wine aisle.
With a distinctive cultural commitment to environmental and ethical issues, the response to great wines from well-known brands in our sustainable bottles in Nordic countries including Finland has so far been very promising. Back in the summer we were delighted that our flat wine bottles debuted in Alko stores as part of our ongoing collaboration with the UK’s no.1 wine company, Accolade Wines. This saw the launch of Accolade’s Hardys Nottage Hill Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz in initially only 30 Alko stores which doubled monthly to over 160 stores. Consumers who have purchased a planet-friendly wine bottle have taken to social media to share with much positivity the great environmental benefits the bottles have to offer as well as the practicality and convenience of being able to safely enjoy a bottle in an outdoor, adventure or getaway setting due to their extreme portability and shatterproof design.
Nordic consumers are more used than most to wines sold in PET because of their well-known eco-credentials; they offer a lower carbon footprint than glass bottles, and in Finland, PET bottles have a 90% return rate as part of the country’s well established deposit return scheme. By advancing this format further with an innovatively shaped bottle that is made from 100% recycled PET, we are pleased to be bringing a new innovative packaging category to the Nordic monopolies. With this new product launch of Evergreen in Finland, we look forward to seeing our flat bottles’ sustainable influence grow even further.
